| On July 23, 2002
the Eyes of Learning, Inc. celebrates its 19th anniversary and so begins
it's 20th year as the most highly respected metaphysical, holistic
and spiritual non-profit teaching and learning center on Long Island.
The Eyes of Learning is dedicated to providing a broad-based exposure to a variety of metaphysical and esoteric philosophies without endorsing any one over another. This is demonstrated by the kinds of lecture topics that have been offered over the years. In August of 2002 one lectures featuring a clairvoyant reader and psychic healer and a different lecture concerning a healing modality titled "AIM", are being offered. Some of the most popular topics have included such favorites as Feng Shui, ESP, UFO's, reincarnation, and angels. Other great subjects have included astral travel, tarot, aromatherapy, astrology, channeling, reiki, crystals, alternative healing, mediumship, spirit guides, numerology, mental telepathy, meditation, primordial sound, tai chi, and much more! |
Typically four
lecture/workshops , which are open to the general public, are held every
month at Levittown Hall in Hicksville. Co-Founders Elaine Resnik
and Dr. Leslie OHorowitz remember the early days, when the
rather informal lectures were given in someone's home. Participation grew
quickly as like-minded individuals, also interested in learning, sought to
join the group. Needing more space to accommodate the growing membership,
The Eyes of Learning moved into it's present "home" at Levittown Hall in 1986. "One of the things we have always believed in the Eyes of Learning" says OHorowitz, "is that we're a place where people can come and share their ideas and share their apprehensions about getting involved in the metaphysical world, to provide a comfortable atmosphere...to explore the future and develop yourself." This non-profit organization is now run by a Board of Directors and Executive Council comprised entirely of volunteers and has a paid membership of over 300. Membership IS NOT REQUIRED to attend lectures and workshops. |
Monthly Council meetings,
held at Levittown Hall, are open to the public. Two annual festivals, one in
the Spring and one in the Fall, are the center's primary fund raising
events. In addition to vendors who rent tables at the festival, the readers
donate their time and fees which all serves to maintain the low cost of
monthly classes and lectures. In addition, for three 3 years, the Eyes of Learning organized a huge Long Island UFO Conference (last years event was cancelled due to 9/11 and one was not planned for 2002). A similar event is being planned for 2003 but the month is likely to be changed to avoid scheduling conflicts.
