| On Sunday
October 17, 2004, the Eyes of Learning, Inc. held an all day conference
entitled "Ancient Mysticism" featuring author and international speaker,
Dolores Cannon along with three other experts in topics related to the
beliefs and practices of ancient mystics. Owing to the proliferation of
other events taking place on the same day, attendance was not up to
expectations of the organizers however all would agree that the lectures
on the other hand, exceeded expectations on all levels.
Speaker Ms. Christine Keller, who holds a Masters
Degree in religious studies with a concentration in Eastern and Western
Mysticism was the first speaker. Appearing uncomfortable and frequently
referring to her hand-held notes, Ms. Keller discussed how ancient
mystics were able to accomplish the extraordinary in her lecture "Love
and the Mystical Ideal". Her descriptions of Mystics as just normal
people helped to better understand how and why renowned sages and

throughout time have often placed themselves on the bleeding edge of
society to express their convictions. Her description of St. Theresa of
Avila was entertaining and it was regretable she ran out of time before
having the chance to tell the stories of all the mystics she had hoped
to share.
Master J. Teasley, a member of the Great Dakota Sioux
Nation, was a humorous and informative addition to the program. Though
he occasionally appeared to be lost in thought he did explain why the
Lakota Sioux refer to themselves as "star people" in his lecture. It was
surprizing to hear that his tribe was not so enamoured with the
"visitors from the stars" as one might have expected. In fact, he
revealed that the next appearance of the "White Buffalo Woman" heralds
the coming of a dark time for the earth and his people. Master Teasely
also clarified how the Sioux's spirituality is closely tied to the stars
and planets but it is a subject seldom discussed

the tribe. A curious fact we learned was that a recent federal
regulation requires a permit to own eagle feathers so we were all
cautioned by Master Teasley not to pick up stray feathers we might
encounter! I suspect federal authorities did not give much thought to
how this regulation will complicate age old rituals and ceremonies in
Native American communities! Keynote speaker
Dolores Cannon had attendees captivated as she described how she came in
contact with the "greatest psychic of all time"' Nostradamus and the
relationship they developed over the course of her researching her three
volume set of books entitled "Conversations with Nostradamus". An
unassuming midwestern housewife, appearing more grandmotherly than
glitzy, Ms Cannon had attendees begging for more as she pointed out the
predictions that have come true since the original publication of her
books in the late '80s. Revelations that the much feared "Anti Christ"
of Nostradamus's predictions was born in February of 1962 struck

even more real when she showed an artist renderings of the person fated
to bring the world to the brink of the apocolypse. Ms. Cannon is a
fascinating person with an insatiable curiosity. The breadth of her work
and writings runs the gamut from Christ to Nostradamus, aliens
encounters to the convoluted and enigmatic universe. Her down home
personae and manner of delivery adds immensely to her credibility.
Last but far from least was Montgomery Taylor's presentation on
Astrology. Far from a lesson in the zodiac, it helped listeners to
understand how this ancient practice was derived, its symbology and how
it can still serve as a blueprint for self-enlightenment while Monte's
lively style managed to keep the crowd focused and entertained in spite
of the late evening hour. While modern day computer programs make it
easy for astrologers to prepare a chart, it is clear that the knowledge
of the practitioner is absolutely essential in interpreting the symbols
and their significance for the client.

This was the
first time the Eyes of Learning has put on such a program on Long Island
and I certainly hope it will not be the last. As a teaching and learning
organization, making profit is not the objective of these kinds of
events which is clearly a good thing for the attendee. Profit motives do
not drive the selection of speakers nor subjects covered assuring an
unbiased presentation of information geared exclusively for education
and enlightment. The Eyes of Learning is a treasure on Long Island that
deserves the respect and support of all local practitioners for adding
much needed credibility to the metaphysical field. Seekers of wisdom and
those on a spiritual path are well served by this all volunteer
organization.

distribution list for the events event calendar as well.
